SAM - Survey on Drugs and Fatal Road Traffic Accidents

Head : Laumon Bernard, département TS2

Main objective

The epidemiological analysis aims to assess the role played by drugs in fatal road accidents. This includes estimating the relative risk of fatal accidents that involve drugs and the prevalence of drugs among "circulating" (accident-free) drivers. Even though only drivers involved in a fatal accident are included, both of these parameters may be estimated, provided certain analysis conditions are met.

It also aims to characterise fatal accidents involving drivers under the influence and to compare these characteristics with those from other fatal accidents. The objective is to determine whether the first accident type bears specific traits that may be the basis for defining preventative initiatives that target drug users.

Inclusion criteria

- Present at the accident with immediate life-threatening consequences;
- Consent.

Head : Molimard Mathieu, Service de Pharmacologie, CIC-P 0005-INSERM U657- Université Bordeaux Segalen
Moore Nicholas, Service de Pharmacologie, CIC-P 0005-INSERM U657- Université Bordeaux Segalen

Main objective

The objectives were to identify cases of adrenal insufficiency and / or Cushing's syndrome in patients taking inhaled corticosteroids during the years 2000 to 2005 and describe the circumstances of occurrence of these events in order to propose recommendations to prevent them.

Inclusion criteria

Children or adults treated with inhaled corticosteroids; Having presented symptoms suggestive of adrenal insufficiency and / or Cushing's syndrome during the years 2000 to 2005; First symptoms having appeared during treatment or within 3 months after discontinuation; Patients without adrenal insufficiency and / or Cushing's syndrome known before initiation of treatment with inhaled corticosteroids.

EDONIS - Epidemiological Study on Post-Surgical Neuropathic Pain

Head : Duale Christian, CPC-CIC

Main objective

General objective: The EDONIS projects (PHRC national 2005) piloted by the Clermont-Ferrand Clinical Investigation Centre is a national multicentric epidemiological study whose primary objective is to know the prevalence of persistent pain at 3 and 6 months after surgery. This is the first prospective study of this size on chronic post-surgical pain which is a public health problem accounting for almost 15% of new consultations in specialist pain management institutions. Secondary objective: EDONIS also aims to identify pre-and peri-operative pain risk factors and to characterise its mechanisms with a focus on neuropathic factors. Eight types of conventional surgery were selected because (a) they are already known to induce persistent pain (thoracotomy, mastectomy, inguinal hernia repair), (b) they are frequently practised in France and chronic pain is an attribute (sternotomy, caesarean section, cholecystectomy, saphenectomy) or (c) surgery has a suspected risk of nerve injury (knee arthroscopy). There is also an associated ancillary genetic study.

Inclusion criteria

Scheduled surgery identified as neuropathy-inducing

QUALIMORPH - Embryo quality evaluation in Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) cycles with Fertimorph system

Head : Niez Philipe
Arbo Elisangela

Main objective

Evaluate the concordance between the embryo quality appreciated by the biologist according to his normal technique and according to the Fertimorph system

Inclusion criteria

Embryos coming from couples having the following characteristics:
-Criteria linked to the woman: woman with normal response, all infertility etiologies, aged up to 36 years, maximum of one prior assisted reproduction technique (ART) cycle, current ART cycle with ICSI with ejaculated or frozen sperm, normal ovarian reserve (evaluated via hormone assays and where applicable by an antral follicle count), with a normal uterus and without hydrosalpinx.
-Criteria linked to the spouse: diagnosed male infertility, where applicable normal male karyotype,
-Criteria linked to the studied attempt: at least 5 mature (MII) ovocytes retrieved, maximum of two embryos transferred.

ESCAPE - Estimated cost of the lower limb osteoarthrosis (knee arthrosis and coxarthrosis) in the general population and in those treated by spa therapy

Head : Moore Nicholas, Service de Pharmacologie, CIC-P 0005-INSERM U657- Université Bordeaux Segalen

Main objective

The main objective of this study was to develop a reference statistical model predictive of the average cost per patient of the lower limb osteoarthrosis in the general population (ESCAPEg) and in those treated by spa therapy (ESCAPEc), and to identify the main determinants.

Inclusion criteria

Patient with tibiofemoral osteoarthrosis and / or patellofemoral uni and / or bilateral, and / or hip osteoarthrosis and uni / or bilateral; aged more than 20 years; Patient affiliated personally to the Caisse Nationale de l’Assurance Maladie des Travailleurs Salariés (CNAM-TS) for at least six months; Patient giving written informed consent for participatation in the study and to extract the patient data from the ERASME database of the CNAM-TS.
